Node2Shell exploit now seen in real attack traffic

Update Node.js to 26.12.1, 24.22.1 or 22.23.4 (and PHP to the 8.x.y-1 Windows builds, .NET and Python Brotli to their fixed releases), then restart apps and rebuild images.

PHP2Shell chained with a Linux flaw to root 25 servers

Update PHP to 8.5.12, 8.4.27, 8.3.36 or 8.2.35 and install your distribution's kernel fix for CVE-2026-46300, for example Ubuntu 24.04 kernel 6.8.0-124.124 or Debian 12 kernel 6.1.174-1.

The short version

  • If your apps or servers run on Node.js, make sure this week's update is installed and the apps restarted; attackers are now trying a working exploit against unpatched machines.
  • If you look after Linux servers, install the latest kernel update and reboot; US officials say a kernel flaw is being combined with the PHP2Shell attack to take full control of machines.
  • If your company uses Oracle E-Business Suite for finance, payroll or HR, ask IT to confirm last week's Oracle security patch is installed.
  • If you use a Mac for coding, the git and curl tools that come with macOS still accept the leaked eMudhra certificates, and the latest macOS update undid the manual fix, so redo it.
  • If your company uses Tailscale, update every device to version 1.104.4 or later.

Today's stories

CRITICAL

Node2Shell exploit spotted in the wild

A day after CISA listed the Brotli decoder flaw CVE-2026-111497 (also called HTTP2Shell or Node2Shell) as exploited, ELLIO reported sensor traffic carrying the public exploit that gets a shell on vulnerable Node.js builds, and Wiz says 82% of cloud environments have publicly exposed Node.js instances. The risk is highest for services that decompress attacker-supplied data, such as Express 5 apps with default JSON parsing. Update Node.js to 26.12.1, 24.22.1 or 22.23.4 (there is no workaround), plus .NET, Python Brotli, Bun, Envoy and Istio where you use them, then restart processes and rebuild container images. CRITICAL

PHP2Shell plus a Linux kernel bug roots 25 servers

Researchers at Dream describe a suspected China-linked, AI-assisted campaign that chained PHP2Shell (CVE-2026-109618 and CVE-2026-109619) with the Linux kernel flaw Fragnesia (CVE-2026-46300) to root 25 internet-facing firewalls in the US, Japan, Taiwan and South Korea, then break into a US government-affiliated network. CISA added Fragnesia to its exploited list on 28 October. Update PHP to 8.5.12, 8.4.27, 8.3.36 or 8.2.35 and install your distribution's kernel fix, such as Ubuntu 26.04 7.0.0-22.22, 24.04 6.8.0-124.124, 22.04 5.15.0-181.191, Debian 12 6.1.174-1 or 13 6.12.90-1, then reboot. Attackers probe fresh Oracle E-Business Suite flaw

Defused Cyber's decoys recorded exploit attempts on 27 October against CVE-2026-101767 (CVSS 9.8), an unauthenticated SQL injection in Oracle E-Business Suite that Horizon3.ai says chains to running commands on the server. Oracle fixed it in last week's Critical Patch Update. If you can't patch today, remove the AppsTCFServer servlet from the EBS URL allowlist and restrict the web tier to trusted networks. macOS developer tools still trust leaked eMudhra certificates

As of 28 October, the git, curl and python3 that Apple ships with macOS still trust the compromised eMudhra certificates, so someone on the network path could tamper with clones and pulls or steal tokens; macOS 27.2 on 26 October also reversed the manual fix. Safari and apps using Apple's networking framework are protected. Remove the affected roots by hand again after every macOS update until Apple ships a fix, and consider any macOS CI runners. eMudhra patch tracker (opens in a new tab)

Tailscale fixes Tailworm SSH flaws in 1.104.4

Tailscale released 1.104.4, which fixes the Tailworm flaws that let a device already allowed to open a Tailscale SSH session reach root-only sockets, such as the Docker socket, on the target server. The fix makes forwarding run as the logged-in user instead of root. Update Linux and macOS machines that run Tailscale SSH to 1.104.4 or later. The Hacker News (opens in a new tab)

Hacked analytics script skimmed cards at Brazilian checkouts

Sansec found a Magecart group had added a card skimmer to the self-hosted Plausible analytics script that Brazilian e-commerce platform Convertr loads on its checkouts, from 24 October until it was removed on 27 October; Convertr says no real store checkout was affected. The suspected way in was CVE-2026-8467, an unauthenticated command flaw in Plausible Community Edition 3.0.0 to 3.2.0. If you self-host Plausible, upgrade to 3.2.1 or later.
