HTTP2Shell is now being exploited, says CISA

Update Node.js to 26.12.1, 24.22.1 or 22.23.4, .NET to 10.0.14, 9.0.22 or 8.0.33, Python Brotli to 1.2.1 (brotlicffi 1.2.1.0) and the Brotli C library to 1.2.1, 1.1.1 or 1.0.10, then restart and rebuild images.

PHP2Shell: US federal patch deadline is tomorrow

Update to PHP 8.5.12, 8.4.27, 8.3.36 or 8.2.35 (on Windows, the 8.x.y-1 builds).

The short version

  • If your apps or servers use Node.js or .NET, make sure this week's updates are installed and the apps restarted; US officials now say a flaw in a common compression library is being used in real attacks.
  • If your website runs on PHP, including WordPress, Drupal or Joomla, check it was updated this week; attackers are actively trying the PHP2Shell flaws.
  • If you run an online shop on Magento, apply Adobe's July security update and check for admin accounts or page content you don't recognise.
  • If your company uses Tailscale's built-in SSH feature, ask your IT team to turn off SSH forwarding until Tailscale ships a fixed version.
  • Windows PCs that don't get automatic updates should install Microsoft's new certificate update so they stop trusting the leaked eMudhra certificates.

Today's stories

CRITICAL

HTTP2Shell moves from proof-of-concept to real attacks

CISA added the Brotli decompression flaw CVE-2026-111497 to its Known Exploited Vulnerabilities list on 27 October, based on evidence of active exploitation; it can let a crafted compressed request or response run code in Node.js apps, Python clients such as requests, httpx and aiohttp, .NET apps and PHP's Windows builds. Update Node.js to 26.12.1, 24.22.1 or 22.23.4, .NET to 10.0.14, 9.0.22 or 8.0.33, Python Brotli to 1.2.1 or brotlicffi to 1.2.1.0, and the C library to 1.2.1, 1.1.1 or 1.0.10. Updating the system library does not fix apps that bundle their own copy, so restart processes and rebuild container images. CISA (opens in a new tab)

CRITICAL

PHP2Shell attacks continue as patch deadline nears

CISA has confirmed active exploitation of CVE-2026-109618 and CVE-2026-109619 and given US federal agencies until 29 October to patch, while Censys still counts more than 32.5 million PHP services on an affected version. Wiz reports a limited number of exploitation attempts so far and a sharp drop in exposed vulnerable servers, but many sites remain unpatched. Update to PHP 8.5.12, 8.4.27, 8.3.36 or 8.2.35, or the 8.x.y-1 builds on Windows. Wiz (opens in a new tab)

Magento PolyShell flaw officially exploited

CISA also added PolyShell (CVE-2026-48356), an Adobe Commerce and Magento upload flaw that lets attackers plant executable files through the store's API, to its exploited list. Sansec has tied it to a skimmer campaign on 953 mostly Magento stores and found one fully patched store reinfected because the attacker kept database access. Apply Adobe's July 2026 update (APSB26-73), then check for rogue admin accounts, injected page content and backdoors before rotating credentials. SecurityWeek (opens in a new tab)

Tailscale SSH flaws can lead to root, no fixed release yet

Researchers disclosed 11 flaws dubbed Tailworm in Tailscale 1.104.2 and the self-hosted headscale 0.29.5 server, the worst letting a user already allowed to connect over Tailscale SSH gain root through socket forwarding. Tailscale is rushing out patches, but its changelog still lists 1.104.2 as the latest client, and no attacks are reported. Until a fix ships, review who has Tailscale SSH access and turn off SSH forwarding where it isn't needed. SecurityWeek (opens in a new tab)

Login and HTTP library fixes for Node.js and Python

undici, the HTTP client behind Node.js fetch, fixed a bug that could silently drop TLS settings and skip certificate checks, plus a cache poisoning issue; update to 6.29.1, 7.30.1 or 8.12.2. The auth libraries better-auth (fixed in 1.7.7) and Python's Authlib (fixed in 1.9.1) patched critical flaws that could let attackers sign in as another user or forge tokens. Microsoft pulls eMudhra roots from Windows

Microsoft released out-of-band updates on 26 October (KB5134133 for Windows 11 24H2 to 26H2, KB5134125 for Windows 10) that remove six eMudhra roots and a cross-sign, mainly for machines that don't receive automatic certificate updates. OpenJDK, containerd and certbot are still listed as pending, and macOS command-line tools still trust the leaked certificates until Apple updates its bundle. Microsoft (opens in a new tab)
