## Headline alerts

- **WordPress takeover bug drew 63,000 attack attempts in a day** Update WordPress to 7.1.4 now; versions 4.7 through 7.1.3 are affected.
- **Ivanti Connect Secure VPN chain exploited for full takeover** Upgrade Ivanti Connect Secure to 25.1.1.3 or 22.8R2.6, which close all three flaws in the chain.

## The short version

- If you run a WordPress site, update it to version 7.1.4 today; attackers are already trying to break in during updates.
- If your company uses Ivanti VPNs for remote access, ask IT to install Ivanti's latest update straight away.
- If you use Cursor with the Claude Code add-on, check its version; anyone who got version 2.1.313 should treat that computer as hacked and change their passwords and keys.
- If your apps run on Northflank, change every password and API key stored there now, as the company says all of them may have been exposed.
- If your team hosts its own GitLab, make sure it has GitLab's 21 October update or later; the US government says attackers are now using a 10 out of 10 flaw.

## Today's stories

### WordPress update race lets attackers run code

Severity: critical

A flaw in WordPress Core 4.7 through 7.1.3 (CVSS 8.1) lets an attacker with no login run code on a site during the few seconds a full core update is being unpacked, because the staged files sit in a predictable, web-reachable folder. Wordfence blocked 62,969 attempts in 24 hours, with some attackers polling the same sites for about 14.5 hours to catch the window. Update to 7.1.4 and check for unexpected PHP files under the upgrade folder or unfamiliar admin accounts.

### Ivanti VPN flaws chained for full takeover, now on CISA's list

Severity: critical

CISA added CVE-2026-111357 and CVE-2026-118527 to its exploited list on 30 October; chained with the earlier CVE-2026-104935 they give an attacker root on Ivanti Connect Secure VPNs, and Volexity saw the attacker steal domain credentials and Active Directory data. Ivanti says a limited number of customers were hit so far. Upgrade to 25.1.1.3 or 22.8R2.6 and check for signs of compromise from before the patch.

### Trojanized Claude Code extension planted SSH backdoors via Cursor

Severity: high

A malicious version 2.1.313 of the Claude Code extension was published on Cursor's extension marketplace under its real publisher name on 29 October and reached at most 5,000 users before it was pulled. It adds an attacker SSH key labelled svc-telemetry, installs persistence, opens a reverse tunnel and sends host details plus the names of secret-looking environment variables. Open VSX and Microsoft's marketplace were not affected; move to 2.1.314, and on any machine that got 2.1.313, remove the key and persistence and rotate credentials.

### Northflank breach: assume every secret is exposed

Severity: high

Cloud platform Northflank says it is investigating a security incident and tells all users to assume their environment variables were decrypted, with several users confirming their AI keys were misused. Rotate all secrets in workloads, secret groups and global secrets, and turn off public access to databases and other add-ons.

### GitLab 10 out of 10 flaw confirmed exploited

Severity: high

CISA has confirmed attacks on CVE-2026-97229, which lets an attacker with no login run code on a GitLab server through a crafted regular expression in CI configuration. GitLab's fix is 19.4.2, 19.3.5 or 19.2.8, and 19.3.4 is still affected. This is a different flaw from CVE-2026-110264, fixed on 21 October, so the newest release on your branch is the safe choice.

### Drupal Commerce shop flaw exploited

Severity: notable

Drupal says attackers are exploiting CVE-2026-118539, a missing permission check in Commerce Core that can let them reach protected routes and fields and may cost shops money. Update to Commerce Core 3.3.13 or 8.x-2.41.
