## Headline alerts

- **PHP2Shell: first confirmed successful break-in** Update to PHP 8.5.12, 8.4.27, 8.3.36 or 8.2.35 (on Windows, the new 8.x.y-1 builds), and set session.upload_progress.enabled to 0.
- **HTTP2Shell: Brotli bug can run code in Node.js, .NET and Python apps** Update Node.js to 26.12.1, 24.22.1 or 22.23.4, .NET to 10.0.14, 9.0.22 or 8.0.33, and Python Brotli to 1.2.1, then restart and rebuild images.

## The short version

- If your website runs on PHP, including WordPress, Drupal or Joomla, make sure it was updated this week; attackers have now broken into at least one unpatched server.
- Apps built with Node.js or .NET, and Python apps that unpack compressed web traffic, need this week's updates and a restart; a flaw in a common compression library can let attackers run code.
- If your team uses GitHub, look for unexpected branches starting with ci-sync- and change any secrets those repositories hold.
- If you run an online shop on Magento, check for admin accounts and page blocks you don't recognise.
- Mac command-line tools still trust some leaked security certificates; ask your IT team to apply the fix on the eMudhra tracker page.

## Today's stories

### PHP2Shell attacks are now succeeding

Severity: critical

A Perplexity researcher's honeypot recorded attackers running code on an Apache mod_php server with PHP 8.4.26 using the PHP2Shell flaws (CVE-2026-109618 and CVE-2026-109619), and Expel's Marcus Hutchins called it the best confirmation of in-the-wild exploitation so far. Update to PHP 8.5.12, 8.4.27, 8.3.36 or 8.2.35, and set session.upload_progress.enabled to 0 because the related CVE-2026-115560 still has no patch. On Windows, PHP has also rebuilt those versions as 8.x.y-1 packages to fix the Brotli flaw below.

### HTTP2Shell: one compression bug, many platforms

Severity: critical

A memory bug in Google's Brotli decompression library (CVE-2026-111497) lets a crafted compressed request or response crash an app, leak memory or run code; it is built into Node.js and reaches Python clients like requests, httpx and aiohttp, .NET apps that opt into Brotli, and PHP's Windows builds. Public exploits exist and Imperva ran code through it, though no attacks are reported yet. Update Node.js to 26.12.1, 24.22.1 or 22.23.4, .NET to 10.0.14, 9.0.22 or 8.0.33, Python Brotli to 1.2.1 or brotlicffi to 1.2.1.0, and the C library to 1.2.1, 1.1.1 or 1.0.10, then restart and rebuild containers.

### Stolen GitHub tokens used to dump private repo secrets

Severity: high

Wiz says a campaign it calls Gheist has used stolen tokens from more than 850 accounts to plant over 13,500 branches named ci-sync- plus six characters, each running a workflow that prints every secret into the Actions log before deleting the run. GitHub's hold on suspicious runs blocked it in public repositories, but it succeeded in private repositories and GitHub Enterprise Server, and it was still running on 24 October. If you find such a branch, rotate every secret that repository could read and revoke the token that pushed it.

### Two Wasmtime flaws let WebAssembly escape its sandbox

Severity: high

Two bugs rated 9.9 in Wasmtime's Cranelift compiler (CVE-2026-115889, and the ARM64-only CVE-2026-115893) let a malicious WebAssembly module break out of its sandbox, which matters most for services that run other people's code. No attacks are known. Update to Wasmtime 36.0.19, 48.0.7, 49.0.4 or 50.0.0, and rebuild any program that embeds it; unsupported lines such as 24.x get no fix.

### Leaked certificate keys: Macs and some tools still exposed

Severity: high

Browsers, Windows and Apple apps now block the eight compromised eMudhra intermediate certificates, but macOS's built-in curl, git and python3 still use an un-updated certificate file, and fixes for containerd, certbot, Bottlerocket and Godot are still pending. The tracker explains how to clean the Mac file; elsewhere keep Node.js, Python certifi and Electron apps such as Slack and Discord on their latest versions.

### 953 Magento stores hide malicious code from scanners

Severity: notable

Sansec found a long-running campaign that planted a JavaScript loader in the content blocks of 953 mostly Magento online stores, showing it only to real shoppers so security scanners see nothing. Most stores were broken into through the PolyShell (CVE-2026-48356) and SessionReaper (CVE-2025-54236) flaws, and one fully patched store through a rogue admin account. Apply Adobe's APSB26-73 fix, check for unknown admin accounts and unexpected content blocks, and use strong passwords.
